Zachman Framework
Arguably the Zachman framework is the cornerstone for enterprise architecture. The framework, taxonomy is a great way to bucketize the things that matter to a business. On the other hand some of the Framework’s criticisms are centered that it is not really a framework. [1] it is in fact only a taxonomy. This is due to the lack of process/methodology that would describe how it should be implemented.
Digging in deeper the framework is put into motion by Sam Holcman and his methodology. This marries process with the taxonomy and provides a methodology to capture data for creating actionable views for the enterprise. The methodology highlights gaps in the organization and highlights resource utilization.
In conclusion I have found this framework when put into a methodology extremely useful in setting the direction of the enterprise and prioritizing te initiatives that were aligned with the companies strategies. Ultimately this drives the efficient and agile direction of the enterprise from an operational standpoint.
